The words are finally hitting the page.

After years of reading, researching, ranting, and rewriting history in the pub (and in my head), I’ve officially started work on A King's Gamble: The Neville's Cross Campaign 1346. It’s a deep dive into one of England’s most overlooked clashes — a muddy, brutal, and strangely under-told story of ambition, blunder, and battlefield chaos.
This book won’t be a dry trudge through royal dates and dull dynasties. I’m writing it to be readable, human, and (hopefully) entertaining — the kind of history I always wanted to find on the shelf but rarely did. There’ll be bishops who fancy themselves generals, teenage kings making very un-teenage decisions, and enough betrayal to make Shakespeare raise an eyebrow.
I’ll be using this blog to share updates, strange medieval facts that didn’t make the cut, and the occasional dose of dark humour. If that sounds like your kind of thing — stick around.
The gamble’s only just begun.
